Noise between floors is the case wherein the average noise is over 45 dB from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. and 35 dB from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. Because of the pandemic situation, noise complaints jump over 60 percent as more people stay in their houses. According to Korea Environment Corporation(KECO), its hotline received more than 42250 complaints, and the rate increased by about 60 percent compared to last year.
According to a study, noise between floors has a negative effect on health and can cause heart diseases. Stress caused by floor noise promotes the secretion of catecholamines hormones(epinephrine and norepinephrine) which are ban and can cause cardiovascular diseases. Also, noise causes a sympathetic nerve to be activated, so it lowers the heart rate fluctuation by accelerating the heartbeat and vasoconstriction.
Additionally, noise has an adverse effect on vascular health and can cause angina. According to a medical expert, the stress hormone is secreted when we are exposed to noise whose intensity level is from 50 dB to 60 dB. Then, the stress hormone causes the contraction of cardiovascular, blood lipids, and heart rate fluctuation which increases the possibility of pathogenesis. Angina, a vascular disease, is a disease that disturbs the blood flow which goes to the heart muscle. Angina often occurs when people relax especially from midnight to 8 in the morning.
To deal with serious floor noise, we should communicate with our neighbors and find fundamental resolutions of noise between floors. Putting on a pair of earphones that provide noise-canceling function is a way to avoid floor noise. The lawsuit is also a way to solve the noise problem if the case is serious. To consider others from floor noise, we should wear slippers in the house and spread mattresses.
