Doosan Mobility Innovation (DMI) has joined hands with LG Uplus to implement smart hydrogen drones. DMI and LG Uplus announced on the second that they signed an MOU to vitalize hydrogen drone business at LG Science Park on the 30th, with DMI CEO, Lee Doo-soon, and LG Uplus’ new business group chief, Cho Won-seol, attending.

The model of drone business that both companies are working on is smart drone control and video service that utilizes hydrogen fuel cell drones. Developed by Doosan Mobility Innovation, the hydrogen fuel cell drone improves drone flight time, which is only 20 to 30 minutes long and is characterized by being able to fly for more than two hours. The two companies plan to find various business opportunities by linking the advantages of hydrogen fuel cell drones with smart drone platforms.

The smart drone platform, built by LG Uplus, relays photographs and videos taken by cameras installed in drones to handsets and controls the centers like smartphones through LTE∙5G communications. In addition, status information, flight plans, flight paths, and mission performance of drones can be managed remotely through LTE∙5G communication. Through this process, it is expected that the use of smart drones, which are receiving attention in various fields such as industry, security, and military, will greatly increase. Especially, it will be possible to use smart drones in logistics and distribution fields where the introduction of drones was limited due to short flight time. In addition, public works opportunities are expected to increase as they are useful in the event of various disasters such as large fires and earthquakes that require long-term flight and monitoring.
