Gyeonggi Provincial Police Agency’s Cybercrime Unit brooked 11 people without detention and detained 2 people who are updated in multimedia contents with private information.

They hacked IP cameras placed for housekeeping or for a business use.

Mr. Im has hacked 1402 IP cameras and accessed them 2354 times.

He also shared the video on the internet websites.

Also, last year, global users’ IP camera and CCTV were hacked and broadcasted in Russian website “Insecam”.

800 cameras in South Korea were also broadcasted.

As the hacking case of the IoT equipment including IP cameras is increasing rapidly, the government is scrambling to take action.

Last 26th, Ministry of Science and ICT held the first private and public cooperation meeting with Korea Internet and Security Agency (KISA), IP Camera manufacturers and their persons to share the invasion incidents and talk about the measures to reinforce the security.

At the meeting, they mainly discussed about the “IP camera security checklist”, which is composed by the details IP camera makers must follow, and the “IP camera security checklist” for users that introduces the ways to change the password, and how to set the security services.

The IoT security certification services, weak points of the security and its solution, and other measures that can be held to reinforce the problems were also talked.

Ministry of Science and ICT will prepare and push the “IP camera security reinforce plan” by private and public cooperation, under the result of the recent discussions.

They will also propagate security consolidate measures to the users actively.

Ministry director of Ministry of Science and ICT, Song Jung Soo, said that government will keep pushing the measures of IP camera’s security reinforcement, and it is important to consolidate the security methods at the aspects of the users like changing passwords or downloading new security software.
