Phones, as known as “Super Phablets”, are ready to be released in latter half this year. 

In 2010, Steve Jobs has mocked a big phone.

He said, “You can’t get your hand around it… No one is going to buy that.“

He insisted the size that 3.5 inches, is an ideal size which could be controlled only by using one thumb, and his products never grew larger than that. The primary iPhone and his later products with 3.5 inches height domesticated the world, however Steve Job’s 3.5 inches generation is now gone.

As the demand of bigger phone, upcoming smart phone models are expected to apply bigger screens, which we called “Phablets”. The word “Phablet” is a combination of a phone and a tablet, which refers to have a larger size than former phones. “Super Phablets” are bigger, refers to a phone having screens larger than 6 inches, which forecast to account for 4.3 percent of total smartphone sales this year, selling about 66 million units according to Strategy Analytics (SA).

The demand of it is growing as more customers enjoy multimedia contents such as games and movies which are usually enjoyed in tablets rather than in phones.

In fact, presumed Samsung Galaxy, LG V30 and Apple iPhone 8, slated to be released over the second half of 2017, are anticipated to have screens larger than 6 inches, while Steve Job’s 3.5 inch phone cannot be found anywhere. With the stream, attention is gathering will 6 inches “Super Phablet” would be a new trend, but some researches point out its limit.

It shows that it is hard to hold it in one hand and also has less transportability to be used as a phone.

Strategy Analytics(SA) explained, “This year 6 inches smartphone, which is “Super Phablet” only places one seat in the 50 phones with high ranked sales”, “Even though a large screen is a trend, the result shows that smartphone larger than 6 inches is actually impossible to handle by one hand. So people will feel uncomfortable about it.”

No matter what the controversy of the size of the phone, both the size and consumer’s demand are getting larger. In the same manner, the influence of the “Super Phablet” seems quite super.
