▲ Burgers causes burger phobia in the world Burger phobia rose to the surface because of a four-year-old girl in Korea. Burger phobia is receiving wide attention. The term “burger phobia” refers to the disease that is caused by unripe patty including food poisoning bacteria. Its formal title is hemolytic uremic syndrome(HUS). In Korea, a four-year-old girl has lost 90 percent of her kidney function, so is now undergoing dialysis for eight to ten hours every day.
▲ HUS virus that causes burger phobia On top of that, there were some other accidents like the current incident. In 1982, dozens of children who ate McDonald's hamburgers had burger phobia in Michigan and Oregon, US. In 1993, 732 people who ate Jack in the Box’s hamburgers had this disease in Canada. Four people were dead, and 178 people’s kidney and brain were attacked. In 2000, a three-year-old girl was dead because she ate Sizzler’s unripe meat in Wisconsin, US. Her family argued for years and arranged with 1.35 million dollars. The cause of HUS is grill’s temperature, which is not hot enough to boil the meat(patty) well.
▲ McDonald`s is at issue About this accident, McDonald’s in Korea said that food safety check list was recorded normally on that day, and there was no error in cleanliness. However, an ex-employee of McDonald’s said that they measure the temperature and check it every day, but sometimes, that temperature is not maintained all day. Even some employees record the list in a skipping manner. Most patties are normal, but some patties are unripe.
Currently, Staple Food Control Law stipulates that food restaurants should write the Food Management Register every day. However, the employees write it in a skipping manner. So, the law about it should be strengthened by checking and considering the check list.
