Samsung Electronics and Haman's technology have changed the paradigm of the film industry. It has been commercialized for the first time in the world for a technology that shows images directly from a light emitting diode (LED) screen, away from the projectors (projector) method that has been in existence for 120 years. Samsung Electronics plans to replace 10 percent of the world’S cinema screens with LED screens by 2020.
On the 13th, Samsung Electronics unveiled the “Super S”, a movie theater that installed 'Cinema LED' at Lotte Cinema in Jamsil World Tower store. Cinema LEDs display images directly from the LED screen just like TV screens. Kim Hyun-seok, president of Samsung Electronics' video display business, said, "Based on Samsung's display technology, Samsung Electronics has commercialized the world's first" Cinema LED "screen that does not require a projector. I was standing. "
The existing movie theater is a digital beam projector, which projects images on a white or gray screen. In 1985, the technological advancement of digital and laser projectors, starting with film projectors, has been achieved, but the concept of projecting images on screens with projectors has not changed. Projectors are not bright enough to be able to see movies only if the inside of the theater is dark. Since the image is enlarged through the lens, distortion of the peripheral portion occurs.
The Cinema LED, which supports 4K (4096 × 2160) resolution, has overcome the limitations of the projector. It boasts 10 times more brightness than a projector. You can watch movies in the dark as well as in the bright room. It can be used for various events such as games as well as movies. High-dynamic-range (HDR) technology is applied to enjoy HDR content with significantly improved contrast ratio. It is the first digital cinema standard in the world to be certified as 'DCI'. Cinema LEDs applied to Lotte Cinema are 10m in width and 5.4m in width, one of the two screens in the world.
