More than 80,000 new COVID-19 suspected symptoms were reported in North Korea on June 3rd, 2022. The daily count remaining was under 100,000 cases for the fourth day. The total number of fever cases since late April came to over 3.91 million cases as of 6 pm, on June 2nd, of which more than 3.76 million people have recovered and at least 153,720 people are being treated.

▲ Quarantine Support

As coronavirus continues to rise, North Korea urgently dispatched the People's Army to all pharmacies in Pyeongyang on May 16th to start transporting and supplying medicines 24 hours a day, the Korean Central News Agency(KCNA) reported. North Korea is still relying on internal control and China's support for quarantine. Even though the South Korean government has been expressing its intention to support quarantine every day, North Korea has not responded.

▲ Pharmacies

Minister of Unification Kwon Young-Se attended the plenary session of the National Assembly Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee on May 17th. He said that the South Korean government will continue providing Humanitarian aid despite North Korea's refusal. Minister of Foreign Affairs Park Jin said that If it is determined that aid to North Korea is necessary, the South Korean government will consult with the United States so that South Korea's aid to North Korea can be carried out smoothly.

▲ North Korea`s Nuclear Weapons

However, Director of North Korea Research Division Hong Min expected that North Korea which has been developing its nuclear weapons will barely likely accept South Korea's quarantine support. He said from North Korea's point of view, a certain level of tension between the North and South Korea is needed in order to make a cause to develop their weapons. Also, many experts expect that North Korea still needs additional medical support from other countries.
