The number of confirmed cases has been over a thousand for four days, especially centering around the metropolitan areas. The government saw the situation as a pandemic, so they decided to raise the distancing rules to level four.
The pandemic situation is caused by Delta variants, which are variants of COVID-19 first discovered in India. Delta means India, so it was first called India variants, but it was changed after the pandemic situation. Delta variant is a virus that has one more spike protein than the original coronavirus, so it is faster to infect people than the original virus. The symptom of delta variants is similar to the original coronavirus such as vomiting and stomachache, but the speed of symptom appearance is much faster than the original virus due to spike protein. Delta variants mainly appeared at the age of twenty to thirty and are expected to lead the pandemic situation over South Korea.
As delta variants are spreading over the metropolitan area, the government announced that they are about to impose level four distancing rules in the Seoul area. Level four distancing rules are much harsher than the original distancing rules. About private gatherings, more than four people are banned and after 6 p.m., gatherings are limited to two people. Families that live in the same space are not included in the rules. The government announced that schools and educational facilities will shift online starting July 14th, and private academies should close after 10 p.m. according to the concerns of spreading COVID-19. Also, sports facilities and other multi-use facilities must close after 10 p.m.
