While the increase of the cases of COVID-19 is not stopped for more than a year, the vaccination of this virus was started on February 26th, with a majority of people who expressed their position that they will be vaccinated against COVID-19. The first group of recipients is more than 65 years old who are convalescent in the hospital, sanatorium inmates and workers, and workers of the hospital that treat COVID-19 patients. During this first vaccination, some side effects were revealed.
Koreans are being vaccinated with two types of vaccines. They are Pfizer and AstraZeneca. A majority of the known side effects after the vaccination are after the vaccination of the AstraZeneca vaccine. Most side effects are mild cases, but there are serious cases such as anaphylaxis (allergic reaction) and even death.
Due to these side effects, people are reluctant to get vaccinated. Some of them argue that the vaccine is killing people. A lot of people said that they do not want to be vaccinated early to check the side effects in advance. In this situation, experts recommend getting vaccinated. Korean president announced that he would get vaccinated with the controversial vaccine Astrazeneca and Daegu mayor will get a shot on March 8th to show the safety of the vaccine. The director of Seoul National University Hospital requested people to believe in the vaccine and get it, saying that the vaccines have great advantages and grounds. Also, Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that there is no cause-and-effect relationship with the vaccine.
COVID-19 pandemic is not over yet. So, people cannot feel easy until the herd immunity forms and should get vaccinated under the vaccination guideline.
