EU agency approved Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine on January 6th, 2021, which is the second vaccine that the EU agency approves.
Prior to Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine, the EU agency approved the vaccine by Pfizer and German Incorporate BioNTech on December 21st, 2020. After the approval of the vaccine by Pfizer and German company BioNTech, despite the expectation, there was criticism about the slow pace of the vaccine's supplement. Compared to the vaccine of Pfizer and BioNTech, Moderna's vaccine can be stored at a temperature of fewer than twenty degrees. Also, it can be preserved at two to eight degrees for 30 days. According to the EU agency, they will pay attention to the pace of vaccination especially for supplementation, and they are going to start to vaccinate next week if possible. Moderna's vaccine was introduced in the U.S., followed by Canada and Israel.
Moderna's CEO explained that the vaccine by Moderna will persist the immunologic effect for years. By vaccinating it, the antibody in the human body will be decreased gradually. Saying that it is possible to dismiss the anxiety about the vaccine's immunologic effect, he expressed his confidence about his company's vaccine. After the statement of Moderna's CEO, Emer Cooke, the executive of EMA, said that Moderna's vaccine will be another tool to overcome the current situation. Also, the European Commission President, Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the approval of the vaccine by Moderna, and she posted and her personal Twitter account saying that they are fully working to use the vaccine available in the EU.
EU agency secured 100 million vaccines by Moderna and 300 million vaccines by Pfizer and BioNTech for EU countries. Also, the EU will still sign a contract with various vaccine enterprises for the solution COVID-19 situation.
