How much time do you spend on social media a day? You may be spending quite a few hours of your day. The Internet continues to develop, and most teenagers are exposed to social media because they spend more time at home while having online classes. So, teenagers, social media addiction is getting worse over time.


Social media is also called social network service. It is an online service that builds a network of relationships among people who interest in or activities. It has both pros and cons. First of all, from social media, we can share information quickly. Also, we can communicate conveniently with other people. However, social media has lots of fake news, and we can be addicted to it easily. Also, there are many news because of the data spill.

The problem of social media addiction is very serious among teenagers. According to a survey, 41.5 percent of students said they use social media for more than three hours a day. So, Fomo syndrome is highly represented. From syndrome is a severe fear of missing the flow, or fear that you are being excluded from the flow of the world. Teenagers are afraid of miss flow and log behind trends. That is why teenagers cannot stop using social media. Adding insult to injury, because of COVID-19, students have their online class. So, it highly increases the use of social media. According to another survey, 65 percent of students spent time on social media after their online class.

Kim Eun-joo, a medical professor at Yousei University, said that the brain's reaction to addiction to smartphones and the Internet is similar to those of drug and alcohol addiction. Also, Park Il-joon, the president of the Education Association, said that online classes have increased the use of media by students, and some are concerned about Internet addiction. But, a crisis is an opportunity. They argued that if they knew how to use the media properly, it could be more effective than offline classes.


There are some solutions to avoid social media addiction. First, you reduce your smartphone usage time. You can set the time. Second, you keep your smartphone as far away as possible. Third, you find other hobbies instead of using media such as playing sports, dancing, drawing, and many others. Lastly, you go to the addiction prevention center. These methods will surely help teenagers like you prevent and solve social media addiction.
