The number of people reported having died after being vaccinated against influenza this year has increased to 80. The health authorities have investigated 72 deaths so far, but they believe the causalities between vaccination and death are very low and plan to proceed with the vaccination as it is.

▲ Increasing death after vaccination causes fear over Korean citizens

Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) reported on October 31st that a total of 83 cases have been reported to have died since the start of the "2020-2021 seasonal influenza vaccination." Of the 83 reported deaths so far, 46 were men, and 37 were women. By age groups, the number of senior citizens in their 70s and older stood at 71, accounting for 85.5 percent of all deaths. Thirteen people, which account for 15.7%, died within a day after vaccination, and fifty cases were 48 hours after vaccination.

KCDC held a quick response meeting to the vaccination damage investigation team. According to KCDC, it did not fall under anaphylaxis where symptoms appeared acutely after being vaccinated. Also, there were no adverse reactions from others who were vaccinated with the same manufacturing number on the same day and at the same medical institution. Thus, KCDC released, "Out of a total of 83 deaths reported as abnormalities after vaccination, 72 cases were determined to have low causality between death and vaccination. For the remaining 11 cases, epidemiological investigations by health authorities and experts are currently underway."

▲ KCDC reported the causality between death and vaccine is low, continuing its national vaccination project.

KCDC issued that it would not consider re-testing the vaccine or discontinuing the national vaccination project, seeing the low causality between vaccine and death. So far, 40 of the 83 dead have completed autopsy procedures. Thirty-three people did not conduct an autopsy, and the remaining ten were checking whether the autopsy was conducted, according to the disease agency.

▲ Jeong Eun-kyung requested people to get vaccination in good health.

The health authorities renewed their request to get vaccinated in good health, not in a hurry. "The influenza epidemic level is lower than usual and is likely to be delayed," said Jeong Eun-kyung, head of KCDC. "Don't rush the vaccination too much and accept it on a healthy day." According to KCDC, about seven million vaccination have been conducted so far, and 1,669 people have reported abnormal reactions such as fever and local reactions after getting a flu vaccine this year. Still, the causal nature of the vaccination has yet to be confirmed, which makes people worry about themselves and their lovers.
