Nowadays, many people want to get cosmetic surgery. Surprisingly, especially in South Korea, the percentage of cosmetic surgery is increasing geometrically. It means that people in modern society care about their appearance much more than before. Cosmetic surgery can have both good effects and side effects according to a circumstance. It also has advantages and disadvantages.

First of all, cosmetic surgery can give confidence to people who got surgery. Almost all people nowadays want to be prettier and more handsome. When they become prettier and more handsome, they become more confident than before. The statistics show that caring for one's appearance has increased a lot compared with the last 16 years. 64 percent of the participants said that they care about their appearance themselves. Among those participants, females recorded a much higher percentage has recorded about caring for one's appearance. In fact, lookism is rampant in our modern society. Therefore, some discrimination of appearance often occurs in our lives. In that situation, people who have an unattractive face could be discriminated against and deeply wounded by others' bad looks. If they get cosmetic surgery, they could be free from discrimination, and their lives could be absolutely changed.

Cosmetic surgery has many advantages, but it also has some disadvantages, too. It could have side effects. Techniques that are used in cosmetic surgery have improved a lot than before, however, nobody knows if there would be side effects because surgery could put artificial things or cut something in our body. Also, some surgeries include cutting bones, and somebody could face tremendous pain after that surgery. If something goes wrong, it could lead to death in a serious situation. Another problem is addiction. People who once get cosmetic surgery could be easily addicted because if one looks so good, the others look too ordinary.
