▲ Dr. Li Wen-liang (李文亮)
On Dec. 30 last year, Dr. Li Wen-liang (李文亮), a doctor at the central hospital in Wuhan City, was surprised to treat a patient. It was due to an examination report on the patient suffering from cough, high fever, and dyspnoea. The patient was tested positive for Coronavirus, which was very similar to the severe acute respiratory syndrome and the so-called SARS virus, which terrorized the world, especially in China in 2003.

Dr. Li shared the information with his medical school classmates through the Weissin chat room, which is equivalent to KakaoTalk in China, and was shocked to find out that there were seven confirmed cases of the same symptoms in the process. Dr. Li immediately shared the news in a group chat room at Wuhan University Medical School, a group chat room for workers at a tumor center and a group chat room at Xiehe Hospital’s neurology department, to discuss countermeasures. In the process, the news spread to the outside world stating that seven SARS patients appeared in Wuhan. The initial warning of the Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) from China, which brought the world into an emergency situation in 2020, started like this, but unfortunately, it was completely ignored by the Chinese authorities.

Dr. Li was indicted on charges of spreading canard groundless rumors along with seven other medical personnel who had talked with him in a group chat room. Also, since the beginning of this state, Wuhan City authorities lied that this infectious disease is different from SARS, has a little human-to-human transmission, and the patient is fully controllable, occurring only within Wuhan. Because of this, the public is reproaching the Wuhan authorities and supporting Dr. Li.

Meanwhile, Dr. Li Wen-liang, the first person to warn this state, is now fighting against the disease. He was hospitalized after showing symptoms of cough and high fever, but a virus test with a Chinese-developed diagnostic device gave him a negative result about Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV). Dr. Li said that he was infected while taking care of a patient. His colleague doctors and nurses were also infected and hospitalized, but he watched the news that the Chinese health authorities announced that there is no human-to-human transmission on TV. He did not understand why they were doing it. Given Dr. Li's case, it is questionable whether the Chinese health authorities are correctly identifying patients infected with Novel Coronavirus (2019-nCoV).
