Bats are pointed out to be the start of this virus. It is expected that people in Wuhan somehow contacted with live bats, and the infection started. According to the Chinese authorities, about 2,000 people are confirmed to be infected with the virus in China. The Chinese authorities put the city in quarantine and blocked many tourist spots. A number of medical staff are also sent to Wuhan to handle the current situation.
In spite of the effort of China to improve the situation, the possibility of worldwide infection is also discussed. There are many rumors as well, including the video of Chinese medical staff in Wuhan, posted on January 25th. In the video, a man who introduces himself as medical staff asserts that the Chinese authorities are deceiving the world, saying that the real number of infected people in China is already over 90,000. Neil Ferguson, an expert on public hygiene, also argues that there will be much more infected people than the announcement of China. Although the authenticity of the video is not confirmed yet, such rumors are widely spread, frightening people seriously.
In South Korea, the first confirmed infected person is a 35 years old Chinese woman, who entered South Korea on January 19th. After that, 3 Korean people are confirmed to be infected with the virus. They are a 55 years old man, a 54 years old man, and another 55 years old man. Those people all visited Wuhan and came back to South Korea, through Incheon International Airport.
Regarding the current situation, President Moon pronounced the government's stance. He promised to help the treatment of the Chinese infected person in South Korea. He also emphasized the importance of personal hygiene and encouraged citizens to put on the mask. A ministerial meeting is planned to be held on January 28th, and the government is planning to send an airplane to bring Korean residents in Wuhan. President Moon said that there will be a complete investigation over people who visited Wuhan. The government is keeping its eye on the impact of the status quo on the economy as well.
