Do you know the start of K-pop? What kind of song was popular in South Korea before the k-pop fever? As a matter of fact, K-pop first started in the 1990's, making Seo Taiji and Boys' debut. The current K-pop has to go through many processes.


Before Seo Taiji and Boys' debut in 1992, Korean music was classical and salubrious. Because of Seo Taiji and Boys, the flow of Korean music was changed. Moreover, the word Hallyu was first used because of Seo Taiji and Boys. Since the group succeeded in South Korea, other groups were created and started expanding to China and Taiwan from the 1990's to the early 2000s, establishing a bridgehead of overseas expansion. Also, South Korea had another goal which was expanding business in Japan. To achieve this goal, SM, one of Koran entertainment, produced BoA, and BoA had a singing career in Japan. However, it caused some problems. Korean singer's work brought about not only K-pop fever but also anti-Korean sentiment, Japanese boycott. Because South Korea could not expand the business in Japan anymore, South Korea expanded to other Asian countries, such as China, Indonesia, and Taiwan. As a result, this expansion is a foundation for worldwide fever, Psy's song, "Gangnam Style", was very successful all over the world. Moreover, Psy made the second generation of K-pop that was created.

Advanced technology, second generation of K-pop, current Korean music, make features of simple and cheerful rhythm or beat and easy melody to sing along. Many teenagers who like current groups like BTS or EXO often say that the reason why they like K-pop is a visual delight which means the idol star's fashion style, brilliant dance style, appearance, or stage settings.
