A person with a surname Yun who was suspected as the criminal of the eighth crime in the Hwaseong case applied for a retrial for his unfair imprisonment. After his application for retrial, it was revealed that the evidence which made Yun convicted as the criminal of the case was manipulated.

On the 13th of December, prosecutors investigated the people who are under the Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute and National Forensic Service about a report of DNA testings written 30 years ago. Then, prosecutors determined that the NFS's primary and secondary results were different. Also, Yun's hair and the hair that was discovered at the site where the crime happened were too different. At that time, police wrote a wrong investigation report and suspected Yun as the criminal.

Also, it was revealed that there was a cruel treatment during the investigation. Detective Sim said Choi, a detective, took Yun for three hours for an investigation. According to a witness, Choi forced Yun to do squat jumps and deprived him of sleep. Other than the witness, there were other testimonies that showed that Sim tried to shift the responsibility to Choi who already passed away because of his chronic disease. Also, the investigations proceeded illegally. It was because the police searched Yun's room without a search warrant. Yun was taken to the police office on July 25th, 1989. However, Yun's arrest warrant was only issued on July 28th, 1989. That means Yun was illegally confined for three days.

According to the police, they cannot give any materials to the prosecutors until the end of the year. So, the prosecutors are going to investigate the reason why the police cannot give the materials to them. Also, they are going to check whether the police have any intentions to conceal the case. The investigation was only made to reveal the truth of the case, but it was expanded to determine the doubt of the police's concealment.
