On December 11, 2019, the state-run South Korea Tourism Organization declared that they reformed "Food trip in Korea," a website that helps to make a foreign-language menu for expansion of dissemination of foreign-language menu of right writing. The new website offers not only translations of 8,500 Korean dishes in English, Japanese, and Chinese but also a realization of QR code menu and designing a various menu. This chance is useful to South Korean restaurant owners.
A lot of menu of South Korean restaurants have been translated strangely because of the less advanced free translation sites on the Internet, or there have been no translations of the menu in a foreign language. So, plenty of foreign people who travel in South Korea and those who love South Korean food could not understand the menu when they order some dishes. For example, a strange menu wrote gomtang not as beef-bone soup but bear soup. In addition, some menu wrote yukhoe, not as Korean-style raw beef but six times. These mistakes cause confusion for foreign travelers.
Recently, the foreign people who visit South Korea are increasing, and they are in various nationalities. Moreover, according to a survey about foreign travelers of the state-run South Korea Tourism Organization, one in two foreign people traveling South Korea chose K-Food as a cause of visiting South Korea. Therefore, the state-run South Korea Tourism Organization started this business, and they are promoting it. As they promote the website’s launch, they will also hold an event from December 12th to 21st, with the first 300 applicants winning a physical copy of their new foreign language menu.
The state-run South Korea Tourism Organization said the original website is difficult for restaurant owners and foreign travelers to use. Through this reforming website, they will be able to boost food tourism conveniently in South Korea.
