In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the Provisional Government of Korea and the March 1st Movement, the Youth Siberian journey was held in Russia from August 8 to August 14, 2019. The purpose of this program which was sponsored by Seoulyouthhostel was to announce the correct history to the youth. The youth who participated in this program visited many places that activists for Korean independence lived in Kraskino, Bladibostoc, etc.

I am going to retrace the 7-day long program, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the provisional government of Korea. On July 24, at the Ahn jung guen memorial hall, the history professor park hwan said, "There were many other activists who are unknown to us in Russia." And a lot of students seemed excited when they visited the historical places.

The First day was August 8. 80 students arrived at Bladibostok international airport and started the journey by visiting the independence movement-related places in Ussuriysk. Koryeo people emigrated to Russia (at that time, the Soviet Union) in order to overcome poverty. The program participants strongly thought that Koryoe people would be different from us at the beginning of the journey because we have been separated for about 200 years. But we realized that they were very similar to us in many ways. For example, they ate Kimchi and rice too. One of the different things was just language. The student Lee hyun seo said “I thought Koryro people would be different from us since they lived in different places and cultures. But they aren't, I think. That’s why we are all Korean forever.” And this program helped us adjust our stereotype about Koryeo people.

From the second to the third day, students visited Kraskino, the main place of the Korean independence movement. It was the place where An jung guen led the movement. Especially, Choi jae hyung’s birthplace meant something to us. He helped An jung guen with all his heart. It was very touching when we experienced the historical places. Prof, Kim yong jun of Suwon university said “Now, we are on the historical place of the independence movement. We have to remember what we saw and how we felt."

On the fourth day, we went to Habarovsk by trans - Siberian train. Very special was that we were far away from our families and spent all night on the train. Habarovsk is called as the second Saint Petersburg because it is very beautiful. There were also many traces of Korean independence activists. By the way, I guess we know very few female activists except for Yu gwan sun. However, there was the office and the execution ground of Kim Aleksandra who led the female independence movement. Yoo Seung-joo, the participant said, "I think that remembering unknown activists like Kim Aleksandra is the way we return their sacrifice and patriotism for Korean independence.”

In particular, the beauty of the Amur River and the vastness of the Balhae field that we went to on the last day delivered unforgettable memories to us. Besides, many other things like the great view of the far-off Habarovsk, the swamp and the sunset of Amur river and its changing color to red were the grand finale of this journey. Also, the Balhae field where vast plains and blue sky were in harmony, warmed my heart.

80 students could felt so proud when they experienced the historical places in commemoration of the March 1st independence movement and the 100th anniversary of the establishment of the provisional government of Korea. As professor Park hwan told before this journey, we have to remember this memory forever not to forget our history and the spirit of activists.
