Middle school

Korean middle school is consist of three grades. These three grades are like American school's 7~9 graders. There are two semesters in a year. Students have summer vacation and winter vacation. The period is about a month. Students take classes for about 7 hours. Besides students have morning study time. Middle school curriculum has many subject-Korean, Mathmatics, Social studies, History, Science, English, Ethics, Music, P.E and Art. The subjects or amount of subjects students study can vary from year to year. The regular class lasts 45 minutes and break time is fo

r 10 minutes. Most middle schools value Korean, English, and math. Students will be graded on midterm exams, final exams, and performance evaluations. Most students study at private education schools or late 'hagwons' at night except for public education because they should go to a good high school.

High school[edit]

High schools in South Korea teach students for three years, from first grade (age 15-17) to third grade (age 17-19), and students commonly graduate at the age of 18 or 19.  High school is not mandatory, unlike middle school education in Korea.  High schools in Korea can be divided into specialty tracks that accord with a student's interest and career path. For example, there are science (Science high school), foreign language and art specialty high schools. Other types of high schools include public high schools and private high schools, both with or without entrance examinations. The normal government school curriculum is often noted as rigorous, with as many as 16 or so subjects. Core subjects include Korean, English and mathematics, with adequate emphasis on social and physical science subjects

 Middle school

American's middle school consists of two grades. There are two semesters in a year. Foreign languages are usually studied learn in middle school. Like Korea, there are public schools and private schools. Public schools are provided free of charge to students residing in the area. About 85 percent of American students go there. Private schools are often subject attendance requirement, often governed by private committees, and are not subject to the rules set forth by the state government or the professor. About 10 percent of American students attend private schools. Under the "No child left behind" policy, students from three to eight years of study will be tested for reading, language, math, science and high school students.

Secondary education in the United States

Secondary education is often divided into two phases, middle/junior high school and high school. Students are usually given more independence, moving to different classrooms for different subjects, and being allowed to choose some of their class subjects. "Middle school" (or "junior high school") has a variable range between districts. High school (occasionally senior high school) includes grades 9 through 12. Students in these grades are commonly referred to as freshmen (grade 9), sophomores (grade 10), juniors (grade 11) and seniors (grade 12). Many high schools provide Honors, Advanced Placement (AP) or International Baccalaureate (IB) courses. These are special forms of honors classes where the curriculum is more challenging and lessons more aggressively paced than standard courses. Honors, AP or IB courses are usually taken during the 11th or 12th grade of high school, but may be taken as early as 9th grade. Some international schools offer international school leaving qualifications, to be studied for and awarded instead of or alongside of the high school diploma, Honors, Advanced Placement, or International Baccalaureate. Regular honors courses are more intense and faster paced than typical college preparatory courses.[citation needed] AP and IB on the other hand, are college-level classes.[citation needed]
