Every year, Koreans celebrate Hangul Day on
October 9. However, this year was very special. Type of SNS, twitter’s real-time
search ranking was # I learned Hangul because of BTS. All over the world, BTS
fans posted pictures which they wrote Hangul on paper.
English, Spanish, Lacia, and even Arabic,
although their native languages were different, there was something in common
with tens of thousands of posters. Even though their Hangul is uneven
handwriting, but we can feel their efforts. In addition to BTS, foreign fans of
idol groups, who are popular overseas, held 'Korean Writing Authentication
Relay' to celebrate Hangeul Day. That day was posted more than 60,000 about BTS and Hangul Day. Korean
idols are promoting the Korean alphabet all over the world.
‘외랑둥이’ is a combination of a lover
and foreigner. It means foreign fans of BTS. U.S. national Twitter user
"Ebbe" introduced it on Twitter as follows: I studied Korean for a
year. It was a little bit difficult. But it was really exciting! BTS was made it
easier for me to learn Korean.
Thanks to this passionate study of Hangul, BTS
fan club was selected as the ‘Hangul Lover in 2019’ by the Hangul Cultural
Alliance. The Hangul Cultural Alliance said, “ARMY which is BTS fan club name
is famous for BTS studying Hangul to understand the music world more.
The popularity of
BTS has led to a favorable impression of Korea, it also serves as a propagandist
to promote Korean traditional culture. In addition, Korean idol groups are also playing the role
of national promoter. I can’t wait to see how many Korean idol groups will
affect the world in the future!
