Hanspeter Kruesi, a Swiss st. Gallen head of communication said that a police car is an office car as well as mobility, so they must consider its maintenance cost. That was why they chose the Hyundai Kona Electric.
Last March 31st, Swiss st. Gallen police chose Hyundai Kona Electric because it coincided with their condition which has at least 100 kW power, 400 km mileage, and ample loading space under fifty thousand Swiss francs.
Hyundai Kona Electric has invested in the field right away. Five vehicles took an active part, and leftovers were used in the repression task. The Hyundai Kona Electric has a 64 kWh battery for 449 km under WLTP (Worldwide Harmonized Light Vehicle Test Procedure). Also, its maximum output is 150 kW, and it's motor maximum toque is 40.3 kgf. m. These elements made 7.6 seconds for 0-to-100 km/h acceleration and 14.3 kwh/100km efficiencies. With this specification, it takes 54 minutes for 80 percent of charging and 9 hours and 35 minutes for 100 percent of charging. Although it is B-segment, it has 332 L loading space for normal and 1114 L when the rear seat was being folded. The Tesla Model 3 with a single motor that costs forty-seven thousand Swiss francs with the mileage of 415 km is shorter than Hyundai Kona Electric with 449 km. There is also a dual-motor Tesla Model 3 which has longer mileage, but it costs about fifty-seven thousand Swiss francs. Under the strict condition of st. Gallen, Hyundai Kona Electric was selected.
Hanspeter Kruesi said that Switzerland is a clean country, so they chose the Hyundai Kona Electric which is operated by 100 percent of electricity and emits zero CO2. 3563 Hyundai Kona Electric cars were sold last year. This year, 7462 Kona Electric SUVs were sold, which meant that it surpassed its last year's sales volume.
