On May 25th, 2019, Bong Joon-ho won the Palme d'Or at Cannes with his movie “Parasite”. This is the First time that Korean director won Palme d'Or. South Korean directors started to show in the French Film Festival in 1984 with Lee Doo-yong's “Spinning Wheel”. And in 2002, Kwon-taek won the best director award with “Chiwhaseon”. Also, in 2004 Park Chan-wook won the Grand Prix which is Cannes's second highest honor with “Old Boy”.
“Parasite” is a black comedy movie. All thing starts with Giwoo's(: poor family's son) friend offers a tutor in a wealthy family to Giwoo, after he offered his family deceiving their job. So they became a parasite. They expelled housekeeper and chauffeur for their own profit. The movie's atmosphere changes rapidly when expelled housekeeper visited the house when a wealthy family left the house. Actually, there was a hidden bunker in the basement and her husband was living there. She and husband realized that poor family's fraud.
Two families started to haggle. However, poor family accidentally hurt the house keeper and hide them in the bunker. By the way, the rich family decided to hold the party on the son's birthday. On that day, the poor family decided to go to the bunker to apologize about that day's accident. Unfortunately, a housekeeper finally died and raged husband tried to kill the poor family and their daughter was killed. During this accident, a rich family tries to escape the house. However, the father of a wealthy family was killed by the father of a poor family because of the activity that stimulated him.
I was impressed by this movie because this movie points out society's hypocrisy and indifference to a vulnerable social group. By the way, “Parasite” is making a syndrome with a lot of spectators. This movie will be exported to 192 countries.
