Is the Conscientious Objector Desirable?
-Are you ready for military life's change?
By Choi Yewon
Last 2018, December 19th, Seoul Northern District Court sentenced innocence to Mr.Kang. In 2012, specifically in December, Mr.Kang received active service division notice, but he refused because of a religious reason. Then, he surrendered to trial because of the suspicion of not joining the military without a justifiable reason.
At the September 2012 trial, military service law article 88 clause 1;
If you do not serve in the military
y without a justifiable reason or comply with the summons, you will be sentenced to three years or less, can be a violation of the constitution. The justice department said that the defendant took the risk of punishment and continued to refuse to serve in the military service based on genuine conscience conscientious objector.
The conscientious objector is a good system to a conscientious objector. However, it has a particular procedure, and it takes a very long time. Besides, it can be abused by people who do not want to go to the army. I wish that the system of conscientious objector would be used in the right direction and would become a good system for people who truly want to be obligatory.
