Have you ever been interested in the Korean Traditional Wedding? These days, by the influence of western culture, our wedding culture has also gone through a big change. While western wedding styles have been gaining more and more popularity, our traditional wedding culture is being forgotten. In this era, which values each country’s traditional culture, this is unexpected. In fact, if you show Korean people pictures of western and traditional wedding, it is more likely that they will be more familiar with the western wedding style. Since it’s our culture it is our duty to know about it. So how about taking a look?
There are two essential things to know about; food and wedding clothes. We will take a look at some foods first. Wedding food in Korea can be separated in to two categories. First is the ceremonial table. Even though it is different by region, they all have the symbols of health, wealth, fecundity and conjugal harmony. Examples of this are chestnuts and jujubes. Next is Pyaebaek. It’s usually given by the bride’s parents. Pheasant was also given to the mother-in-law. This showed respect to the groom’s parents.
Now, let’s take a look at the wedding dress. There are many important meanings behind each part of the clothes but we are going to take a look at the two most important things. Fist is 사모관대. It was usually worn by high ranking government officers. Second is the white crane on the chest. It represented purity, nobleness, longevity, and wealth. It’s that crane that lived for more than a thousand years.
Overall, we can feel that our traditional wedding is quite different and meaningful compared to others. Before we forget, how about giving more attention and love to our traditional culture?
