▲ Pansori, a traditional Korean music 1 / 네이버 지식 백과

Do you know the famous European composite art opera? It is wonderful play combining music with singing and dancing, there is this art in South Korea, that is called Pansori. There are many characters in operas. However, in pansori, there are only two people. One is the drummer. The other is the talking person. I believe opera is for the nobility while pansori is for the common people. Pansori has emerged from an aristocratic society to a working-class society. That is why it tells the common people's stories, dances and sounds of popular novels. So, the famous pansori is the background of the novel. There are also Choonhyanga, Simcheongga, Heungbuga, Sugunga, and Jeokbyeokga. So, how does Pansori work? First of all, there is a vocalist who will narrate the story, the dance, and the drummer sits in front of the drum. Moreover, when the narrator starts talking and becomes the highlight, he sings and dances a little bit. To add to the amusement of the process of the narrator's conversation, to adjust the speed of the drum or to create an atmosphere for the story, rejoinder like Al-soo puts in the story. It is a wonderful composite art that soothed the lives of ordinary people.

On the other hand, there is music that even ordinary people who have not learned professionally can play. It's called Korean folk song. A folk song is a song about people's thoughts, lives, and emotions. Because people are diligent and very positive and enjoy singing, we sing songs in joy, sorrow, work, rest and anywhere. Since folk songs are unique to the people of the country, you can guess the country's history and culture and understand its lifestyle and ethnicity more easily.

Korean folk songs can be categorized according to their musical expertise and scope, either native folk songs, popular folk songs, or regions. Folk songs are not professional in music but are called in certain areas. Folk song was formed by professional singers and developed throughout the region. Local singers of folk songs include Seo Do Min-yo, Dong-bu Min-yo, Nam-do Min-yo, Gyeonggi Min-yo, and Jeju Min-yo. In our country, we can distinguish the area by its unique dialects. Like the dialect, each region’s songs have a different way of expressing music. For example, Arirang is not the only Arirang of folk songs in Gyeonggi Province. Arirang includes Haeju Arirang in Seodo, Jindo Arirang in Namdo, and Jeongseon Arirang in the eastern folk song. Arirang has different characteristics such as beatings and intonation in different regions. Even though they are sung in different regions or in easy beats, they are impressive because they reflect the sentiments of Koreans.
