K-content on Netflix Major Work on Netflix and the Factor of Popularity 2022-02-16

As Korean content like 'Squid Game' proved its popularity by taking first place in the most important US market, investment in Korean content is expected to accelerate. It was the first time on Netflix which 111 million paid households watched it in 17 days. As a result, some say that Netflix made about one trillion won in profits. Netflix spent a lot of money on Korean content so far, and there were good results. Accordingly, Netflix said that they are actively supporting content and also will be in the future.



Looking at the representative Netflix hits so far, the first hit was "Kingdom", "kingdom" is a drama about zombies in the Joseon Dynasty, and it was a unique theme. Moreover, the story of the "Kingdom" might be a factor in popularity. Next is the "Squid Game". It shows us a new and unique story. It tells the story of people who participated in a mysterious survival game with 45.6 billion won in prize money risking their lives to become the final winner. The social problem of the gap between the rich and the poor is expressed as a squid game. Finally, there is "All of Us Are Dead" which was released on January 28th. It is about school Zombies. It is ranked No. One in the world rankings in the Netflix TV Show category in the first ranking.



Then, how could Korean content be successful on Netflix? First, because of Korea's great storytelling. It has a characteristic of Korean culture and uniqueness and individuality. In advance, the Joseon zombie of "Kingdom" and the Korean games in "Squid Game". Especially, the universal sentiment is most important. For example, the social problem of the gap between the rich and the poor which the "Squid Game" handles. Second, the Korean Wave in Asia makes our content popular. Like Japan and China, they have so much interest in K-pop and K-drama. For example, "Crash landing on You" was the most popular drama. However, and Netflix bought a "Love Crash Landing on You" drama, so many Asians flowed into Netflix and spread further.


Netflix is preparing 13 Korean content in line with the succession of Korean content on Netflix. Based on the works they have done so far, we can expect it.
